I seem to be taking more interest in the “Strobist style” lighting, popularized by the Strobist web site. After all, my philosophy regarding minimal set up is in line with what the site is all about.
That said, there are a bunch of photographers in Chicago who supposedly meet up once a while to practice these lighting techniques. You can learn all about this group at its Flickr residence. The next meet up is on March 1 (all booked!), and I can’t wait to meet the members and learn more. There’s nothing like learning from the peers. There are also some serious photographers in the group, which means more ways to learn.
Also, I am “leading the charge” (a la Alexander Haig) for a meet up in summer. Considering the popularity of this style of lighting, I am sure there will be many meet-ups in summer. The one I am considering will be in the Millenium Park, sometime in June/July. If you are in Chicago, and would like to participate, please keep an eye on the Flickr Group.
At the same time, if you have suggestions on locations in Chicago that would be good candidates, please post on the Flickr discussions, or just post them here.
